I've spent the last several years in email marketing. Ask my managers what makes me valuable and they won't mention individual campaigns. The dynamic content architecture that eliminated hours of manual email builds. The webinar ops infrastructure that turned a manual, siloed process into a scalable GTM motion. The automation logic that connected marketing signals to sales outcomes. That's the work I gravitate toward, and where I excel.
I learned HTML by breaking a small solar company's website more times than I could count. Before that I'd been installing their solar panels, until I realized my fear of heights was probably trying to tell me something.
That was the beginning of a pattern I've repeated over and over. Every skill in my toolbelt came from a problem I needed to solve, not a class I took. PHP because a client needed a WordPress site. Liquid because I was building an e-commerce store from scratch. Marketing automation because the agency I was at needed someone to own a platform nobody else wanted to touch. Velocity scripting because I needed emails to do something Marketo's visual editor couldn't.
Each time, the process was the same: get handed something unfamiliar, dig in until it made sense, ship it. I've never waited for someone to teach me something I needed to know to get the job done.
Otto Routes is the most recent version of that same pattern. I identified a real problem, didn't have a way to solve it inside my job description, so I built it in my free time to learn how to do it. I wrote OAuth integrations across Gmail, Outlook, and Salesforce. A custom ML classification engine. A multi-tenant security architecture; because I thrive on solving the problems, and learning how to do something new to do it.
